No one really expected war in the period we now regard as the run-up to the conflict at Lexington and eventually Bunker Hill. If something had happened, someone caused it to happen, and Boston was now the victim of a more-than-decade-old plot on the part of the British ministry to enslave America, to drain this bounteous land of all her resources so that England, an island lost to luxury and corruption, could sustain the fraudulent lifestyle to which it had become accustomed.” “There were no unintended consequences in the eighteenth century. ![]()

![]() I was truly hoping for an ending to the entire series that I could be happy with. However, that's just me! Overall, I think this book does a great job of ending the series, giving the readers closure with all the characters, and I think fans of the series will be happy with it. In my honest opinion, I think the series could have been 3 novels and been better. I mean, after Passion I just wanted them to be happy and to not have to be living their love over and over without ever truly being together. I was a bit worn out with the whole love story of Daniel and Luce though, to be honest. Kate does a great job of tying all the lose ends together, while still giving us some romance and adventure. :) We finally get to know how Daniel and Luce FIRST met, and I mean for the VERY first time. I honestly would have liked more, but hey, beggars can't be choosers. What I truly wanted from Rapture was more Daniel/Luce time, and Lauren Kate gave it to me. ![]() After reading the third book of the series, Passion, I definitely could not wait to finish the series. I love how unique this "fallen angel" series is compared to others, the tragedy of Luce & Daniel's love, the way not all the fallen angels are actually Hell's angels or bad. ![]() I could not wait to read the ending to this series. ![]() I have been so excited for this book for a LONG time. ![]() ![]() 2 Whether the play succeeds or fails as an attack on romanticism is the question they typically favor. Most critics seem to agree with Shaw, for the play’s setting is rarely the focus of their attention. So I looked up Bulgaria and Servia in an atlas, made all of the characters end in ‘off’, and the play was complete.” 1 Shaw’s words invite a reading of Arms and the Man ’s Bulgarian setting as nothing more than an ‘off’ to the ends of the characters’ names. At last Sidney Webb told me of the Servo-Bulgarian war, which was the thing. Now I am absolutely ignorant of history and geography so I went about among my friends and asked if they knew of any wars. In a self-drafted interview published in the Pall Mall Budget to advertise the upcoming production of Arms and the Man at Florence Farr’s Avenue Theater, Shaw explained that “ was nearly finished before I had settled on its locality. ![]() ![]() ![]() His next book, The Life and Times of the Thunderbolt Kid, is a memoir of growing up in 1950s America, featuring another appearance from his old friend Stephen Katz. A Short History of Nearly Everything was lauded with critical acclaim, and became a huge bestseller. In his last book, he turned his attention to science. Other travel books include the massive bestseller Notes From a Small Island, which won the 2003 World Book Day National Poll to find the book which best represented modern England, followed by A Walk in the Woods (in which Stephen Katz, his travel companion from Neither Here Nor There, made a welcome reappearance), Notes From a Big Country and Down Under.īill Bryson has also written several highly praised books on the English language, including Mother Tongue and Made in America. It was followed by Neither Here Nor There, an account of his first trip around Europe. In The Lost Continent, Bill Bryson's hilarious first travel book, he chronicled a trip in his mother's Chevy around small town America. He and his family then moved to New Hampshire in America for a few years, but they have now returned to live in the UK.
